For nightstands with drawers we recommend a minumum drawer size of 12-13". This is so you can have a nice amount of space in which to store bits and pieces. Allow for a maximum of 3" each side of the drawer for routing detail seen above.

If width is a concern then you could consider having open shelves instead and/or losing the routing detail.
